Sometimes when you hear the term balanced scoring effort in sports, it's a nice way of saying that no player really took control and you see multiple 3 and 4 point efforts. For the Axtell Lady Eagles, a balanced effort including not 1 but 3 athletes with 15 points or more as Axtell advanced to the next round with a 49-34 victory over Onaga.

Maggie Strathman ended the game with 8 of her 15 points in the 4th quarter and 11 total in the 2nd half as she used the size mismatch to dominate near the bucket. But with any great inside play you would prefer to get the outside shooters working too.

Sophomores Katelyn Detweiler and Regan Hasenkamp answered that challenge for their team. Detweiler knocked down a pair of 3 balls and was at the line eight times as she reached 16 points and not to be outdone, Hasenkamp was not afraid to shoot anywhere on the court and earned 16 points of her own.

Onaga's Abby Ringel kept her team in the game for a long stretch in the first half, shooting 6 free throws with only one miss and finishing with 14 points. Jadyn Haskin added 6 and 5 each came from Willow Hochstedler and Lauryn Martin.

The Lady Buffalos made a push late in this game with 14 fourth quarter points but battling the hot shooting of Axtell proved to be just too much as Onaga would fall to Axtell 49-34.

With the win, Axtell will take on 3 seed Valley Heights Monday afternoon in the opening game of the day. Onaga will next be at it on Thursday against Frankfort. A 4:30 tip off scheduled for that one.
