In the Twin Valley League tournament, there are always a handful of games fans will talk about for years. This year's tournament didn't waste time providing one of those games as the Frankfort boys took on the home squad Washington County in the boys 8 vs. 9 matchup.
The Wildcats came at Washington County with the usual suspects early on and why not? The combination of Fred Rosquist, Peyton Adams, Wes Anderson and Porter Colvin is one of the most dominant groupings in the area and early on accounted for all of Frankfort's scoring.
But still Washington County stayed within striking distance of Frankfort at the end of 1 quarter, trailing 14-12. From there Frankfort's Anderson would heat up from the field with 11 points in the 2nd quarter including the Wildcats' only 3 point bucket of the night.
Then something happened in the halftime conversation for Washington County as the Tigers came out with a big 3rd quarter defensively to hold Frankfort to just 2 points that a Porter Colvin layup to give 7 points on the night, and while Washington County was far from solid in that 3rd quarter they had done enough to erase the deficit and make it a brand new ballgame tied at 35 just moments into the 3rd.
They would trade buckets back and forth for a bit until Frankfort was able to get a rebound and Fred Rosquist drew a foul to send him to the line for two free throws. Frankfort was 13 of 19 from the charity stripe and the Wildcats' lead was one with 1:39 to go.
Again both teams would keep each other in check for a final possession and we would go to overtime tied at 41. In the overtime period, Washington County's Chase Gross caught fire with 14 of his team high 22 coming in OT and a tie game became a 57-47 Tiger victory.
Washington County now moves on to take on top seed Hanover on Monday night while Frankfort will face Valley Heights late afternoon on Thursday.
