Early season tests for some of the Twin Valley League teams, while very beneficial in the long term, caused a bit of a change in this week's polls. The Centralia boys fall from number 5 out of this week's poll with a pair of 20-point losses to St. Marys and Silver Lake. The Panthers were able to hang with both teams early and final scores aren't necessarily indicative of what this team have to offer. Once the Panthers get into TVL play, they will have a better chance to wow some people statewide.
Staying in 1A D-I the Frankfort Wildcats took an unexpected tumble all of the way out of the rankings after back to back 3 point losses to Northern Heights and Wabaunsee. Hours after this poll was released the Wildcats turned some heads with a 63-45 win against Blue Valley. It's still hard to tell exactly where the Wildcats figure in the state or even in the TVL but that offense has all of the makings of a top team for sure.
Speaking of top teams, the Axtell boys and the Hanover boys remain tops in Division II after dominating wins. Axtell knocked off Cornerstone on Tuesday with a 96-30 win. No one is surprised by the athleticism of this team with multiple players able lead scoring on a given night or set up a great defensive effort that can cause an offense to just shut down. The Eagles are going to remain a top force in the state all year long.
Right on Axtell's heels are of course, the Hanover Wildcats. Hanover took the court just once this week but the Cats played well in that game and won 56-36 after an awesome second half as they pulled away. This might be the closest 1 and 2 have been in a while and the upcoming few weeks are going to be exciting in the TVL.
