TVL Athletes Racking up Big Point Totals Recently

Fireworks are going off all over the TVL with athletes coming up with incredible performances leading their team to victories here in the early part of January.

This past Friday, Sevy Wurtz of the Clifton-Clyde Eagles notched a double double with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Sevy is no stranger to putting up a great stat as she nears 1500 career points, which by the time you read this may have already been toppled.

Sevy wasn't the only one to pilot her team to a big win this week. Linn underclassman Sophia Hiltgen busted out for a 25-point effort in Linn's Tuesday night win against Washington County. Hiltgen was 5 of 8 from the three-point line in a promising sign for the Lady Bulldogs heading deep into the season. On the boys side, it's been the takeover of Collin Shaughnessy that has the league talking. The Axtell athlete went off for 30 points against Frankfort with 4 treys scoring nearly half of the Eagles points and nearly outscoring the Wildcats on his own. So, when Axtell set out to take on Bishop-Seabury on Friday night, no one would have expected Shaughnessy to not only stay with that pace but to actually leave that total far in the dust.

Against very impressive competition, Collin dropped a casual 44 as Axtell finished off Seabury 77-67. Shaughnessy appeared at the free throw line 13 times, scoring 11 from the charity stripe. There have been many examples of the shooting prowess of our fantastic TVL athletes and who knows what the rest of the season may hold but with several players in line to re-write plenty of personal and school records the rest of this season is going to be as exciting as it's ever been.
