Axtell puts together a full team effort in win over Clifton-Clyde.

Going into Friday's contest against Clifton-Clyde, Axtell knew they were going to have to put together a strong game plan to get past an Eagle team that were ready to play spoilers.

Axtell would do just that in a 56-0 win. 343 yards of total offense, 5 rushing touchdowns and a staunch defense that held a usually potent Clifton-Clyde offense to just 135 total yards and earning two interceptions.

Wyatt Detweiler delivered a nearly perfect passing night going 7 of 8 for 168 yards and two touchdown passes, both going to his favorite target Bill Lybarger. Lybarger finished with 175 total yards and has really emerged in 2026 as one of the top players not only in the Twin Valley League but maybe in the state.

Detweiler would add in 3 more rushing touchdowns from 10, 22 and 38 yards and Axtell would end the game at halftime.

Clifton-Clyde's Kyzler Damman would account for 88 offensive yards in the game but the Clifton-Clyde offense was held scoreless for the first time since week 2 of the 2024 season.

Damman did finish with 64 rushing yards and 4 different Clifton-Clyde players carried the ball, showing promise for the rest of the season for the Eagles.

Both teams take to the road on Friday, Clifton-Clyde takes on Linn in week 3, the first of three straight road games for the Eagles. Meanwhile, Axtell will face Chase County in a battle of undefeated teams in Cottonwood Falls.
