Occasionally, the question arises of whether teams at higher classifications have more ability when it comes to game day. On Tuesday, the Valley Heights girls had the opportunity to settle that debate taking on Clay Center and boy did they.
The Lady Mustangs more than doubled up Clay Center in a 55-27 victory in one of the more complete team efforts of the season. Nine girls would register points in this ball game led by Paige Miller's 17-point game. Mia Vermetten would join her in double digits with 10 with players like Josie Parker with 7 including the team's only 3-point basket.
Valley Heights wouldn't allow Clay Center into double digits in any single quarter and the Tigers, as a team didn't reach the 10-point plateau until just before halftime. One of the more impressive stats though for the Valley Heights team was how cleanly the defense stood up as Clay Center only appeared at the line 4 times compared to 10 for the Mustangs. After a 28-point victory, the Lady Mustangs are winners of 3 of their last 4 with some very important games coming up as we close down the regular season. The Lady Mustangs are going to be a must watch team but, on this night, Valley Heights looks like a team to be reckoned with.
