Time of possession is usually not a statistic a basketball team looks at. For the Blue Valley Rams it was in fact, what they would do when the clock wasn't moving that made the biggest difference in a 62-39 win. The Ram boys shot 17 free throws making 13 and Senior Hayes Hall had half of his points at the line.
A 17-11 lead at the end of the first as Valley Heights' pair of three pointers kept the contest close, a common theme throughout the night. Unfortunately, Valley Heights went cold in the middle of the game as Ben Miller's 7 points were all that the Mustang offense was able to add. Miller was the leading scorer for his team, finishing with 19 points.
Blue Valley would then get a boost as 6'4" Rawley Sump had 8 of 10 points in the 2nd quarter and the Rams had nearly doubled up Valley Heights leading 37-20
Credit to Valley Heights as they did not back down in the 2nd half an effort that Mustang coaches have to hope continues throughout the rest of this year's tournament but it on this day it was Blue Valley getting the 62-39 victory.
Next up for Blue Valley will be 3 seed Doniphan West on Monday afternoon. Valley Heights next takes the court Thursday against Frankfort set to start at 4:30.
