The Troy girls brought out their bats on Monday as they blew past Atchison, outscoring the Phoenix 32-12. Troy would get things going quickly when in the 2nd inning, Grace McConnaughey used some sly base running to get herself in scoring position after a lead off walk. Grable would break the ice for Troy, scoring on a passed ball.
It was the 4th inning where Troy put this game away with 9 runs. RBI singles by Mackenzie Christenson, Mackenna Thomas and Emerson Weber blew the game open for Troy and then to add insult to injury, Troy capitalized on some dreadful Atchison defense scoring on 3 errors in the inning.
The Lady Trojans added 3 more in the 5th as Weber smoked a ball to the outfield and collected an inside the park home run, the cherry on top of a 15-1 win. Weber collected the win in the circle giving up just the one run on 6 hits in 5 innings.
In game 2, Atchison was a bit more proficient offensively scoring 11 runs, but the Phoenix pitching couldn't contain the Troy offense in a 17-11 Lady Trojan win.
If there was any worry that Troy's bats would cool down late in the day, those worries were did away with early. 10 runs crossed the plate in the top of the 1st inning. Weber started off the game with a Triple and was brought home on a fielder's choice by Gracie Grable, a fantastically unselfish play that we have seen time after time from Troy. Jaya Weishaar singled scoring Grace McConnaughey to make it 3-0 and after a Mackenzie Christenson 2 run double, and RBI singles from Rush and Thomas the Trojans were firmly in control.
Atchison did make things interesting late, getting as close as a 6 run deficit in the 5th at 13-7 but Troy was able to stop the charge and take away any hope the Phoenix had of getting back into the game as Troy would sweep the doubleheader winning game 2 17-11. McConnaughey was credited with the win, she went 3 2/3 innings allowing just 1 earned run and striking out 2.
Troy is now 5-3 on the season. They are back on the diamond on Thursday against Horton.
