Twin Valley League volleyball got in full swing on Tuesday night with four triangular with all 12 member schools. I was lucky enough to get to see last year's state runners up, the Hanover Lady Wildcats as they began 2023 and Melissa Holle's squad didn't disappoint. Hanover would take both matches on the evening defeating Axtell 25-23, 25-20 and then taking down Linn 25-15, 25-4, dominating the Lady Bulldogs to close the night out with a great performance. The Lady Cats are now 2-0 as they head to Troy for a triangular also featuring Blue Valley.
In the remaining match, Linn would defeat Axtell 25-23, 25-20. The Bulldogs face a stiff challenge next week as they go to the Onaga quad taking on the home squad Buffaloes as well as Valley Heights and Centralia.
Speaking of the Lady Panthers, after a 3rd place finish in a tournament in Wabaunsee, the held home court on Tuesday taking on Onaga and Clifton-Clyde. The Lady Panthers continued their role on this night defeating Onaga 25-13, 25-22 and taking down Clifton-Clyde 25-22, 25-19. Centralia moves to 6-1 on the season.
Clifton-Clyde was able to pick up the remaining match defeating Onaga 25-7, 25-16. The Eagles are 3-4 after also competing in the Wabaunsee tournament over the weekend. Next up for them is a triangular at Axtell that includes Washington County. Onaga will be 0-2 heading into their aforementioned home match next Tuesday.
Next, we go to Frankfort for a tri featuring Washington County and Blue Valley. Once again, the home team was able to protect their territory despite the best efforts of the Lady Tigers who gave Frankfort a run for their money in a 25-13, 26-24 victory for Frankfort. The Lady Wildcats were also able to take down Blue Valley 25-13, 25-14 to move to 2-0, they are at D-West next Tuesday for a Triangular also featuring Leavenworth.
Washington County and Blue Valley would match up well in the remaining game going 3 sets Washington County taking the first 25-16. Blue Valley came back with a big effort in the second, winning 25-23, but the Tigers were able to cap it off with a 25-16 win once again.
The Tigers pick up their first win of the year after going 0-4 on Saturday in Marysville. At 1-5, the Lady Tigers will next travel to Axtell to take on the Lady Eagles as well as the Clifton-Clyde girls. Blue Valley goes to 0-2 they are at Troy next Tuesday along with Hanover.
Finally at Doniphan West it was Troy and Valley Heights. Valley Heights was able to take both of their matches, defeating Troy 25-19 and 25-7. The purple and white would get much more of a battle from their fellow Lady Mustang squad, getting pushed to a 28-26 decision in set 1 before taking number 2, 25-17. Valley Heights moves to 4-2 in 2023 before the upcoming Onaga quad.
In the remaining match, Doniphan West was able to get by Troy in 2. Winning 25-15 before winning a struggle in set 2 eventually downing the Lady Trojans 29-27. D-West at 1-1 is home again next Tuesday with league foe Frankfort and the Leavenworth Pioneers. Troy will look for their first win of the season as they host Hanover and Blue Valley to start September.
TVL Volleyball is back in full force. It's going to be a wonderful year once again.
